The Moody-Bradley House

A Living Piece of Fairfield’s History Since 1860

The Moody-Bradley House: A Living Piece of Fairfield’s History

Built in 1860 by W.L. Moody, a respected county merchant, the Moody-Bradley House remains a treasured landmark of Fairfield’s rich heritage. Originally constructed for his bride, Elizabeth Bradley, the home was later sold to his father-in-law, F.M. Bradley—one of Freestone County’s most influential figures—for $2,800 in gold.

This historic home saw the birth of their son, W.L. Moody Jr., in 1865. His daughter, Mary Elizabeth Moody Northern, is honored through the “Mary Moody Northern Library” in Fairfield.

Today, the Moody-Bradley House serves as a venue for historical tours, weddings, reunions, corporate parties, and cultural activities, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into 19th-century Texas history.
